The Padaung people from Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) are known almost exclusively for the rings the women wear around their necks. I want my children to love the Padaung people and feel a connection with this tribe. I do not want my children to see them only as "long-neck" oddites. For this reason, we did not concentrate on the Padaung’s neck rings.
1. We began by reading From Arapesh to Zuni and watching this Youtube video.
After we watched the video, I asked the kids to talk about what they saw. What animal did you hear in the background? The Padaung wear beautiful scarves in their hair like mommy sometimes wears. They also wear brightly colored clothes. This Paduang woman plays guitar like Isaiah and Abraham. Abraham likes to make up songs on his guitar. Do you think this Padaung woman creates her own music too? What do you think her song was about?
When we had finished discussing the video, the boys went off to play guitar and the we girls put on our brightest clothes and some pretty head scarves.
2. We spent the week learning to weave like the Padaung women. Here is a great link that teaches a variety of simple weaving techniques.
Pray that the Padaung people would have God’s Word woven into their hearts and minds.

Dad and Mom preached to the Padaung when they lived in Thailand. The Padaung are still often on their hearts.
